Trip to the CascadesThe Cascades are a set of waterfalls west of Blacksburg in the mountains of western Virginia (not to be confused with West Virginia, which I'm sure has some very nice waterfalls, too). There are two trails leading up to the cascades - one that follows the river downstream of the falls, and one that cuts through the woods. We went up the former (which is rockier and harder to traverse) and down the latter (which was a very easy hike). |

Europe 2008 (Pompeii)We took the train south along the coast to Naples, then caught a local train out to Pompeii to see the ruins. It was a rainy day but warm and not particularly unpleasant. On the way back, we stopped in Napoli and looked for pizza. Neapolitan is like New York-style in the U.S. and legendarily good. We also got nuts from a street vendor who tried to speak to me in broken German. I didn't take any pictures outside in Naples, though, since it was mostly dark and covered in garbage (the sanitation workers were on strike). |

Europe 2008 (Roma, Fontana di Trevi)This is a small set of pictures from the famous Trevi Fountain, the largest of the fountains built in the city during the Renaissance. Marking the end of one of the Acqua Vergine aqueduct that provides a portion of Rome's drinking water, the fountain is a popular spot for tourists and locals alike. |
